Tearjerk is the creative project of Austin singer/songwriter, Vanessa Jollay. Originally from Florida, Jollay studied vocal performance and music therapy at Florida State University, and worked as a music therapist for 10 years. It wasn't until moving to Austin in 2017 that she started to truly find her own voice and share original music with peers at places like the celebrated Kerrville Folk Festival.  Taking inspiration from authentic expression, transformation, and the natural world, Tearjerk's music explores themes of self-doubt, change, and learning how to stand in your power. Tearjerk’s debut album, “and the angels whirr,” is a collection of songs written by Jollay with lyrics relating to joy, grief, heartache, and a continued search for the feeling of home, often found within.   Recorded in Dripping Springs, TX with producer Dan Duszynski (Molly Burch, Good Looks), “and the angels whirr” features flowing pedal steel lines (Jeremy Brandelik) juxtaposed with distorted and shimmering guitar work (Jake Stuart), backed by Austin musicians Carissa Giard and Jeff Olson on drums, and Mariah Stevens-Ross on bass. Reflecting Jollay’s eclectic taste as a former college radio DJ, the album walks the line between dreamy rock and roll and 90’s pop, with some Hill Country twang. “Tearjerk's introduction plants vital roots… [and] imparts a shadowy distinction beneath its sunny exterior: Gentleness and fragility are not to be confused.” -Kriss Conklin, The Austin Chronicle Please Note: This is a live-taping, so we'll be enforcing a whisper-policy!
